Mike Atkinson practices as a trial lawyer and is primarily involved in handling commercial litigation and cases involving defective products and insurance bad faith. Following graduation from the University of Oklahoma College of Law, he was associated with a law firm before serving as an Assistant Public Defender and later as an Assistant District Attorney in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. In 1975, he received his Masters of Law in Antitrust from the University of Texas School of Law at Austin, Texas, after which time he returned to Tulsa, and began representing clients in a variety of cases. He represented physicians and attorneys in cases involving claims of professional negligence and later began representing plaintiffs injured by defective products and individuals harmed by unfair insurance company practices.
During his career, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Tulsa College of Law and was a faculty member at the Insurance Counsel Trial Academy. Respected by his peers, Mr. Atkinson has served as State Chair for the American College of Trial Lawyers and State Chair for the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was one of the original members of the Oklahoma chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, later earning the rank of Diplomate in that organization and later serving as its President. He continues to be listed in the Best Lawyers of America and Oklahoma Super Lawyers. He was one of thirteen fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers who participated in presenting an Advanced Trial Advocacy Symposium in the Republic of Palau, which was attended by Judges and lawyers from the Pacific Judicial Council, including the Islands of Guam, Saipan, Yap, Pohnpei, Kosrai and Palau. Mr Atkinson spoke on several topics, including Opening Statements, Closing Arguments and Voir Dire. Mr. Atkinson gained admission to the State Bar of Montana in 2023, and now is Of Counsel with JPM Law in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
